Just a cute little video

Well Miss Amy I am so glad you are not dead!!!  Just kidding.  I am happy that you read my blog to keep up with my life:)  Maybe when you FINALLY get done with school and have kids of your own you can blog too!!!

I realized in my last post I used the word "great" way too much and I apologize for that! This is nothing much just a cute little video of Maggie dancing at breakfast this morning.  We have been spending a lot of time together which is awesome but it just makes me realize how different than Matthew she really is.  She is much needier and likes to play with me.  This is a little for D and Richie though.  She loves that bracelet you gave her and seriously hearing her say "D and Richie" is so damn cute!  (You may have to turn down the sound on my music to hear her talk!)  Have a safe and happy New Year!!!!  xoxo

All I Got for Christmas...:(

...Was damn strep throat AGAIN!  This is the 3rd time this year that I have had it.  Oh well bright side: Rockwood urgent care down town is open 365 days a year AND I got the shot in my butt to avoid 10 days of antibiotics.  YESSSS!  I feel better today but just tired and worn down.  My friend, Kelli, always tells me that I have a lot of energy and I am a "go go" kind of person.  I think when I just "go go" too much this is my body's way of telling me to slow down and take a day off.  I think between all of the traveling, Maggie's birthday, and Christmas my body was telling me to take a day off.  So I did absolutely nothing all day when Chris and Matthew went skiing, except for hang with Maggie and watch about 5 hours of 48 hour hard evidence on TLC.  Maggie played around me, laid with me, and fell asleep next to me for a while.  It was so nice.  The house looks like a toy store explosion but I really don't care!

As far as actual Christmas was concerned (minus all of the sick stuff), it was great!  The kids loved all of their gifts from Santa, us, family and friends.  We saw a lot of Chris' family which was great.  We spent time with immediate family which was great and we got some really great pictures of Adam, Maggie and Matthew and then the three of them with Oma and Opa.  All in all, despite the sickness, it was a great Christmas.  I hope it was the same for all of you:)  (Even though I really wonder sometimes who really reads this thing! haha)

All I want for Christmas...

Chris and I aren't really big on giving each other Christmas gifts.  He is seriously very difficult to shop for so this year we just decided we were going to not buy each other anything.  About 7 months ago, we decided to buy a piece of art from a friend of ours that is an amazing artist, Ben Joyce.  He does abstract topography which sounds different but it is amazing!  Basically what he does is take a map and interprets it in his own abstract way.  He came over and looked at the space (above the red couch in the basement) and asked us where we like to travel.  We thought about it for a bit because we love to travel to a bunch of different places, but we were trying to think of something that was very special to us.  I mentioned that I was packing for our trip to Seattle and ding ding ding, there it was!  He took the idea and ran with it!  So our piece is his interpretation of the drive from Seattle to Spokane.  AWESOME!  And I say all I want for Christmas because he came today to install it so I got my Christmas gift:)

Maggie's 2nd Birthday!

I did a dessert tray instead of one cake!

That was her little cake to blow out

Her tutu from Aunt Amy

Well it came and went:(  I am so happy but at the same time I can't believe that she is two.  I think I love telling random people the story of her birth because it was so crazy!  I think back and can't believe that she was born under 7 feet of snow.  I actually met a person who was supposed to have her daughter via c-section on 12/18/08 but they cancelled it and she had her on 12/19!  Crazy:)  Anyway, we had a Fancy Nancy brunch for her.  It was very girly and very fun!  Click here if you want a refresher of her birth story!!!:)

Matthew's Christmas Program

Last Friday was the St. Thomas More's preschool Christmas program.  It was literally 20 minutes and then we had cookies and punch after.  I sat there as tears were forming on my eyes because I can't believe that I have an almost 5 year old. (It didn't help that Maggie's 2nd birthday was the next day).  Where does the time go?  Anyway, poor Matthew had a rough day at school and he fell and banged up his nose and lip.  But that didn't stop him from singing his little heart out!

We have created a monster!

So I think a part of my childhood has come full circle!

For those of you that don't know this, I grew up skiing almost every weekend from the time that I was 7 until I went to college.  After that, I quickly realized how expensive of a hobby it was and then I met Chris who had never skied.  Fast forward to a week ago...Chris has been talking about learning how to ski for a long time and last week he decided to put Matthew in lessons.  We wanted to make sure that he liked it, before we invested time and money into outfitting the whole family.  (Maggie is a bit young yet)  Chris signed him up for lessons at Mt. Spokane and today was his first day.  He LOVED it and apparently was very good at it:)  He rode the chair lift and learned how to make a "pizza" with his skis to stop.  As you can see he was tuckered out at the end of the day.  The funniest part of the story (and this might be a bit TMI but it helps with the full circle part) when I went to take off his ski clothes we was wet underneath.  I asked him what happened and he told me that he just peed his pants.  I laughed and then immediately called my parents because after night lessons with my dad, I usually peed my pants on the way home.  My mom almost cried she laughed so hard!  I am excited to get back into it after all these years.  I hope I am ok at it?!?!?!?

The Only Picture I took of our Vegas Vacation...

...At least is was the most important one!!!  Anyway, yes, Chris ran the Vegas 1/2 marathon which was the excuse to travel down there (not like we really need one;))  He did quite well considering he was in a considerable amount of pain due to his achillies.  He finished in 2:40 and I was very proud of him.  He showed quite a restraint too because he didn't really drink much for two nights before his race!  Me, on the other hand, made up for this!!!  We had so much fun and the first night we were there, we were alone.  (Oooh la la)  We ate at this amazing restaurant, Carnevino, and just enjoyed a 2 hour meal, talking and people watching.  It was really fun to have some time together to chat, eat great food, and drink great wine (mostly me!)  Saturday, Amy, Jadon, Dave and Jess arrived and from there it gets hazy...no I'm just kidding we just shopped, ate, drank, and enjoyed each other's company.  On Sunday, after the race, we ate at Mesa Grill, which is Bobby Flay's restaurant. It was AMAZING!  I have been wanting to eat there forever and I was not disappointed.  I had the pork tenderloin and yummmm, it was soooo good.  And of course, just for you D and Richie, we ate at The Lux Cafe:)  Always a winner!  Can't wait for March because even if the Zags are sucking, the good will be good!

Christmas tree hunting 2010

It is that time of year again.  Time for the Herzog's to go on their annual tree hunting. This year we decided to go to a different tree lot...

We almost couldn't find the perfect tree but we finally located it:)  The kids were really into decorating it and we had a lot of fun.  I am so happy that they are getting older so I can put some more breakable ornaments on the tree.  Maggie still touches it every day but she is learning.  I love the lights that warm the house on cold nights:)  So cozy!

Right now, this tree is perfect for us.  Maybe someday we will be brave and venture outside for a real tree because those are beautiful too!!!  Hope you are all having a great start to the holiday season! xoxo
