Polka Dot Pottery

I am kind of into giving experiences for birthday presents if it is appropriate.  Well Miss Maggie Daley (Maggie's best friend) turned 3 this month so instead of a toy, we went on a girl date. Nicole, Maggie D., Maggie Noodle, and I went to the Nordstrom Cafe for lunch then we went to Polka Dot Pottery to paint whatever the girls wanted.  Of course Maggie D chose a hippo and painted it yellow and Noodle chose a frog and painted it pink and green.  I wasn't sure how the Maggie's would do but they loved it and we all had a blast!  I have to pat myself on the back for thinking of such a kick a$$ gift:)  The only difficult part was trying to explain why we had to leave the pottery at the store!

Two More Cakes

Last weekend I did a transformer cake for my pal Gavin!  I am proud to say that I have done every cake for his birthday:)  Granted that is only 3 but then it makes me realize that I have been doing this for over 2 years.  Pretty awesome! Just yesterday Chris and I did a Halloween cake for one of his employees who loves Halloween.  Chris was a tremedous help with the lettering and detail work.  Sometimes I get overwhelmed by the fine details while trying to do everything else in my life.  This is where I am very thankful I have Chris to calm me down and help me!  His dental training helps because he can work on fine details and be a perfectionist when I am too stubborn and tired! Anyway they both turned out pretty cute:)

The customer wanted a twilight zone meets nightmare on elm street thing!

10 year college reunion

This past weekend was my 10 year college reunion.  It wasn't technically the year I graduated (I took a "victory lap") but the year I was supposed to!  Since most of my friends are from that year I decided (with a lot of nagging from Sarah) to go.  I let Chris off the hook and he stayed home with the kids.  Sarah and I went as dates and I am so glad that I went!  I saw so many people and caught up.  I thought because I was facebook friends with some I would already know what they were up to but I had a great time chatting with everyone.  Friday night we went out to Jack and Dan's which was fun (complete with a late night run through Taco Bell!) and Saturday we had a fancy dinner at the Davenport.  We only took a couple of pictures but I had a great time!
I love how Beau snuck in there!

Birthday Cake

This is a cake for a 13 year old girl that I donated to an auction. I really liked how it turned out because I wanted it to be girlie but not little girlie and I think that I accomplished that! She seemed very excited when I delivered it.  It was the first one I had done in a bit and it was fun to do!

Starbucks

I know I have been a little boring lately:(  Sorry!  I have been busy with day to day stuff which is not that exciting. Anyway, I was recently having a conversation about Starbucks with some of my girl friends and then this morning this appeared on my cup and I wanted to blog about it:
it says "the Siri and Maggie special"
For those of you who know me, you know that I am pretty obsessed with Starbucks.  This started when I lived in Columbus, OH and has carried over here.  My friends and I were talking about how well Starbucks has branded themselves and why I love them so much.  1) Many people tell me and I agree that the coffee is not the best.  I get this.  It is roasted to taste burnt.  Of course now I am used to it so I don't notice it anymore.  2) People tell me that it is expensive.  Yes, but other coffee stands are not that far behind.  My drink is $2.66 for the record.  3) People tell me that I should support local coffee stands.  True, I suppose. BUT Here is why I love them.  1) I can go literally anywhere in the world and order and receive the same exact drink.  How cool is that!?  I drink one cup of coffee a day and I like it a certain way.  I love that I can get it anywhere and it is roughly the same price.  There is nothing worse than going to get a cup and have it not quite how I like it.  Picky I know, but I am:) 2) When I lived in Columbus and literally knew no one, they were so nice to me.  Yes, I realize they are paid to be but after awhile, I became friends with them and (I know this will come as a shock) but I am facebook friends with some of them.  In Spokane, they were literally my only other adult contact for awhile besides Chris.  I would go and they remembered me.  To the point that when I pull up to the drive through, I will start ordering and they will say "Is this Siri?  Do you want the Siri and Maggie special?!"  I absolutely love this!  I love chatting with them and learning about their lives.  I love recognizing their voices in the drive through.  I get sad when they leave to move on to other jobs even though I know it is for the best.  The manager even takes her kids to see Chris at the dentist and we chat about that.  I miss them when I have to go to another Starbucks.  I know I am an addict but seriously I love Starbucks!  My friend Stacey was telling me that one night (very late) she was finishing up a work report and her wifi crapped out.  She drove to her Starbucks at 12am and used their wifi from the parking lot to finish it up!  She was so happy she went there the next day to buy a drink!  To each their own of course but I just wanted to shout out to my favorite part of the day behind Chris coming home from work!

Fund Run 2011

Matthew had his first fund run at his school.  Basically it was a fund raiser where we ask people for money and then the kids run around this little "track" (basically cones in the grass).  The goal was to raise enough money so the principal would spend 24 hours on the roof!  (He is a good sport and a brave man!)  Well I am happy to report that we made the school goal of $35,000 and he will be up on the roof for 24 hours in December!  Brrr.  Of course my mind automatically thought "how is he going to go to the bathroom?" I guess I will have to wait to find out!  Matthew had so much fun at the carnival while he waited to run.  He got his face painted as spiderman by an 8th grader and played all sorts of games.  Then he ran 37 laps!  I was so proud of him:)

His good friend Matt S.  (yes another Matthew!)

In action:)
I know it has been sometime since I have blogged.  Chris and I went to Suncadia for the weekend for the WSDA annual meeting and I didn't take one darn picture!  If you have not been it is worth going to the website and looking at or booking a trip.  It is a kid friendly, beautiful, all season resort just west of Cle Elum and just east of Snoqualmie Pass.  I am sure I have passed the sign a ton on my travels to Seattle and this was the first time I had ever been!  We slipped away kid free for a couple of days (A BIG THANKS TO NICOLE D. FOR WATCHING THE KIDS!) and I relaxed, read a book, got pampered at the spa, took a walk on the paved trails, caught up with another dental wife and had a fabulous time.  The resort is priced very reasonably and they have tons of indoor/outdoor activities to do with the family.  I want to go back with the kids!  Anyway, that is what we have been up to lately!
