Eye Patch

Maggie had another eye appointment on Monday and I was all prepared for the Dr. to tell me that we needed to schedule surgery.  Maggie's eyes are a bit "wandering" and she was going to have to have surgery to tighten the muscles.  Well to my surprise there was no talk of surgery just yet because her poor left eye is a bit lazy:(  The Dr. suggested patching the right to make the left stronger.  I was so prepared for surgery that I didn't know what to say!  I was thinking "oh great, this is going to be hell!" But so far Maggie has been a trooper.  She has to wear it every other day for 3 hours.  They have some amazing literature out there and we bought her a poster so her "used" patches can make a skirt for a princess.  Also, there are some quite girly patches and I think letting her choose which one she wants makes it better.  Of course she chose the pink and purple flowered one!  The first day we had to bribe her with the ipad to get her to forget about it but today, she was a trooper and I even took her to the gym with it on.  I ordered her a pink pirate shirt (I mean you have to have a sense of humor about it:)) so hopefully that will help.  And we picked out some rewards for when she is good.  In total, she has to wear it for 2 months so that isn't so bad.  All the literature I have read, says that it is so important because if the "lazy eye" is not treated, the brain will shut it off!  And the younger you treat it the better.  I am hoping that our diligence may save her from surgery (fingers crossed) but at least it will help her eyes in the long run!!!

Easter

We had a very relaxing Easter Sunday.  We started out by going to church which was nice except Maggie wasn't on her best behavior.  Then we went over to Mattias and Nicole's for a light brunch.  After that, we went to Chris' uncle's house for some more brunch (lunch) and family time!  It is always good to round out holidays with seeing family.  Especially if you don't get to see them very often.  I haven't taken a picture yet, but the Easter bunny brought a new addition to the family; Thomas the beta fish!  Matthew was super pumped about it!
Thank goodness Maggie isn't really interested yet in this activity!

Happy Easter!

Soccer!

We signed Matthew up for U5 Soccer.  He has been excited about it for weeks.  Chris took him to get all of the gear.  The day he finally got to play he was so happy and his face was so red from running all over the field.  I am glad he likes it and he is good at it!  He clearly got the Herzog genes in this case:)  I was not so good at soccer! His coach, Chad, had all of those 5 yr olds riveted!  They were so good.

His friends Riley and Katie

Arrrrgggg Matey!

I did this cake for a friend in the Tri-Cities.  She wanted a treasure chest.  It turned out well but I guess in the transport it got it a little damaged:(  Not to fear though her husband (who went to dental school with Chris) fixed it up!  Here are the pictures that I took.  She said she would send me some of the party.

Ahhhhh Hawaii...

It was an amazing trip.  It was exactly how I expected it to be and I was so happy.  We slept in, we played on the beach and in the pool, we spent time with the kids and we ate amazing food!  The Hilton Hawaiian Villiage is the perfect place for a kid friendly vacation because there are tons of pools and restaurants.  You never have to leave the resort (although Waikiki is a 15 min walk) and there are people and kids, but it is not overly crowded.  I am sad to leave but happy to be home!  Some good news is that we potty trained Maggie!  YEEESSSS we are 2 for 2 at that resort!  We got some sun but not too much.  Enjoy the pictures!

ALOHA!

As you know if you have been reading in the last 60 days, we have been counting down until our week long trip to Hawaii!  Well the time is finally here and we leave tomorrow!!!!  We are all super pumped and I can't wait to come home and share the pictures but for now I must take a week break to soak up some much needed vitamin D!
