...with baking! I have been furiously baking random things. Whether it is cakes, cupcakes, brownies, cookies...I can't stop! I am glad I have a pregnant friend because I seriously would gain weight if I ate it all!!! This week, I didn't have any cakes so I made lemon curd and I thought "what goes with lemon curd?...Meringue cookies!" Well I made them for the first time and now I am addicted. I probably ate no less than 10 of them over a couple of nights. I got the recipe for both the lemon curd and cookies off of joyofbaking.com They were so good and I am quite proud of myself so I had to share. Maybe in an effort to avoid gaining weight I should open a cake store:)

Spring is HERE!
Ok...I know I have been complaining a lot about the weather. It is so difficult to try and be upbeat when your children are complaining about the snow:) I decided today I was going to be happy (thought it is currently raining!) because it is the first day of spring! I am so excited and very much looking forward to the next 6 months of warm then hot! We have a lot of exciting things coming up: Hawaii, birthdays, races, New York, camping and starting Kindergarten:) I am not even going to complain about the Zags loosing. (I am sad but I will move on!) Here are a couple of pictures taken 7 days apart. I will say though that the snow pile in the middle of the cul de sac has melted and that for me signals spring! YAY!

My Favorite "Go Zags" Pictures
I want to start out by saying apparently I am a bit Irish. I was told by my mother after she read my post about St Patty's day that her maiden name Berry is Irish so I have it in me:) I mostly claim German but hey, I'll take it!!!
I have become a bit superstitious about the Zags over the last couple of years. I was just having a conversation with my friend about where we were going to watch today's game and if she should go skiing because she was nervous about not being home to watch it. It is not silly at all because I am the same way with my picture taking. I find that if I wait until after the first round of the NCAA playoffs to take my yearly "GO ZAGS" picture, they do better. (This is not a scientific fact, just my own observation.) So needless to say, I got out my camera this morning and took the picture before the grime of the day happened! I have been looking back though at some of my favorites from the last couple of years and thought I would post them for extra good luck today:) In the Herzog family, we don't mess around when it comes to basketball. We are VERY serious about it!

Cakes
It is kind of funny because last week I did two cakes for 7 yr olds and this week it was two cakes for 3 yr olds! The first one was obviously a Lightning McQueen cake. Chris carved it for me because I was nervous and I decorated it. I thought it turned out really cute and the birthday boy was very happy with it! The second one is for tomorrow. It is for Beau's 3rd birthday and he is having a Spiderman theme. Don't get me wrong, I love doing intricate cakes, but I love a good ol' fashioned sheet cake! I love piping and having the image pop out! Hopefully he will like it:)

MAGGIE POOPED ON THE POTTY!
I know it is a momentous occasion! I meant what I said a couple of months ago: I am not actively trying to potty train her. I have been responding when she tells me she has to go pee and trying to take her after her nap. Sometimes when we are home I let her wear big girl panties. I went and bought pull-ups (even though they are expensive as heck!) so that way if I miss it and she doesn't tell me, it isn't the end of the world. In the past couple of months, she has been going pee more and more on the potty. Poop on the other hand: no way! Well yesterday we were at my friend, Larisa's house and I could tell she had to go so I put her on there and success! Tonight, I put her in big girl panties after dinner and she told Chris she had to go and he put her on there and she went!!!! I had to take a picture because I seriously walked into the bathroom and she is holding a magazine. Then she got some m&m's as a treat with a lot of praise...no turning back now:)

A couple of Cakes
This week, I had two cakes that were both for 7 year old birthday boys! The first one was interested in dominoes so I tried to make a scene with them. I wish I would have bought more but he was happy with it. The 2nd one was an army scene. This was the brother of the machine gun cake that I did in the fall! It is always fun and exciting to do a "scene" cake.

Sometimes it is just a Zips kind of day
I am not a huge fast food eater. I try really hard not to resort to it for my kids either (I said try!) but sometimes I give in and eat my favorite fast food which is Zips! Yum, I love it:) Today, it was just one of those kind of days! OK you are right...I know some of you out there are thinking "WHAT ABOUT BRUCHI'S" Yes that is up there but with the kids it is all about Zips:)

It was a great day...
Chris and I had a wonderful anniversary! He was on the news early in the morning for dental health month answering facebook questions, but after that we just spent the day together doing everyday things. (He had the day off from work) Last night, we got a babysitter, and went out to dinner at the West Wing on the south hill and then went to Lindaman's for chocolate cream pie! The West Wing was AMAZING food, but seriously, if you don't like garlic, don't go there. I still smell like garlic today! (Matthew told me to brush my teeth!) The chocolate cream pie was so good too (thanks Kelli for suggesting it!) but it was all just amplified by the fact that I was spending time talking, laughing, drinking (yes drinking) with my hubby! He bought me flowers and a really beautiful traditional Indian wedding band to wear as a right hand ring. I love it but it is also awesome because I sometimes prefer to wear a flat ring on my left hand. Thanks babe:) As far as those pictures...I watched that slide show several times (and yes, Terese, there are some good yet secret memories;)) but also, I have changed sizes, and hair styles a lot while Chris pretty much looks the same! The joys of being a man I guess. Anyway, February is done now and time to move on the MARCH MADNESS and hopefully warmer weather because this snow is KILLING ME! I do have Hawaii...a month away now! YIPEEEEE
